Split Sheet
Documents who owns what percentage of a song's composition (and sometimes the master).
When it's used
Signed at or right after a co-writing session, before the track is released — ideally while everyone is still in the room.
Key terms it should cover
- Song title (plus any working title)
- Date and location of creation
- Each contributor's name, role, and ownership percentage
- PRO affiliation and IPI number where available
- Whether it covers publishing only, or master rights too
- Publisher info for each contributor, if applicable
- Signatures and date from every contributor
Who signs
All contributors who wrote or produced identifiable creative elements of the song — including producers who contributed melody or chord progression.
How Mercury handles this
The Mercury split-sheet tool auto-totals percentages to 100%, supports separate publishing vs. master splits, captures PRO/IPI fields, and generates a signed PDF once every invited party approves via a timestamped click-to-sign flow.
